SUN-DAC Upper Thomson

EGC partnered with SUN-DAC and Amazon Singapore to create an inclusive urban edible garden at SUN-DAC’s Upper Thomson centre. Generously funded by Amazon Singapore, the project was officially launched on 12th September 2025 with the Amazon team present to celebrate the occasion.
The garden was designed to be both therapeutic and empowering for SUN-DAC’s beneficiaries. It is thoughtfully sectioned into four parts, offering a blend of sensory engagement and hands-on participation:
A sensory trail at the entrance welcomes visitors with a vibrant mix of plants such as Black Faced General, Pentas, Lemongrass, and Coral Vine. This immersive pathway encourages exploration through sight, touch, and scent.
A local herbs section showcases familiar favourites like Laksa Leaf, connecting beneficiaries to Singapore’s culinary heritage and food culture.
A Mediterranean herbs section introduces a contrasting palette of plants, broadening exposure to different edible species from around the world.
A hands-on planting zone is reserved for SUN-DAC’s beneficiaries to cultivate their own edible plants, providing a meaningful opportunity for them to engage directly with nature, build practical skills, and experience the joy of growing food.
The staff of SUN-DAC were also involved in maintenance sessions with EGC trainers who have imparted the skills needed to take over the reins of managing the flourishing garden and instill a sense of ownership.
This project represents a safe and nurturing space where SUN-DAC’s beneficiaries can learn, interact, and gain confidence through gardening activities. The collaboration also highlights how thoughtful design and strong partnerships through urban farming can be a tool for inclusion, empowerment, and community wellbeing.
