Young Gardeners' Guild
Young Gardeners' Guild is a 3-day after-school adventure where children aged 5–10 explore the world of urban farming through three hands-on learning areas: Nature Art, Gardening Skills and Farm to Table.
Children get the chance to get their hands dirty, get creative, and discover where food comes from. And with nature as teacher, they learn the skills and tools to de-stress and unwind. Personal Nature Art Journals for logging in fun farm facts will also be provided each day to encourage self-discovery, self reflection and mindfulness. Away from electronic devices, kids will nurture their creativity through activities such as:
Day 1 (26 Aug) - Papermaking & Rooftop Farm Tour
- Learn how to make paper from recycled and colorful natural plant materials
- Tour the farm and learn about the different types of edible plants that are grown in Singapore, how to grow, eat and interact with these plants.
- Learn about vermicomposting! Yes they get to touch worms (if they want) and find out all about soil and its importance to our planet
Day 2 (27 Aug) - Pot a Plant (and more Gardening Skills Building)
- Learn about the basics of gardening - soil, water, light, plant types
- Propagate their own little plant cutting that will (hopefully) be the first of many for our budding gardeners
- Mix their own soil according to the plants' needs - they learn about soil nutrition here too
- Make fresh farm tea with self-harvested leaves and flowers
Day 3 (28 Aug) - Sushi Making, Microgreens Growing and Collagraph Printmaking
- Sprouting gardeners turn budding chefs! Children prepare and enjoy farm-to-table sushi rolls... yummmm
- Sow their own microgreens from seeds, to bring home and harvest in 2 weeks; they also learn about plant growth cycles
- Enjoy collagraph stamp making using harvested materials from the garden
Desired outcomes for children:
- Learn how to use art and creative expression as a de-stressing tool
- Cultivate a lifelong passion for learning and exploring
- Gain confidence outside of their comfort zone to be future-ready
- Find wonder in small, overlooked details
- Develop a deeper interest for nature/science of plants
- Make new friends
Note to Parents:
The activity is designed for children to strengthen their confidence and explore a love for nature. We ask parents' understanding to allow their children to learn independently amongst their peers, and leave them in the safe hands of our instructors.
Children will be guided in the activities, but will be performing tasks by themselves or with their peers, to help them elevate self-confidence, and learn the value of teamwork.
All the artwork and plants will then be brought home by the young gardeners themselves.

About the Lead Instructor
The lead instructor for Young Gardener's Guild is our very own Urban Farm Educator Grace Chen! She holds a BFA in Painting & Drawing and has 6 years of experience in art education. She loves to engage with artists, and has experience teaching budding artists, of all ages and backgrounds - from preschool children to elderly, neuro-typical and neuro-divergent. She is familiar with a wide variety of art mediums; fun fact: all the murals at the farm are Grace's works of art. "I am passionate about art education and nature education because they are both spaces we can develop observation and self-awareness and enjoy working with our hands!", she shared.
